I’m anti-tattoo to begin with, so the concept of getting something almost permanently printed onto your skin is alien to me, but I can pretend to understand and accept the reasons why people do it, especially if they mark certain milestones in their life. However, I fail to see why someone would want to have a picture of Tanooki Mario etched into their neck. I wouldn’t even hang a Nintento poster in my home… at most maybe a mouse pad, a vinyl on my PC or some other appropriate venue for geekdom. Anywhere else it would strike me as a childish thing to display. Now I’m a game enthusiast myself, and I work in the I.T. field so I can imagine non-gamers would be even less tolerant to such things. Imagine walking into a job interview or applying for a home loan, with video game icons all over your body… it just doesn’t inspire confidence. Like I said, I’m anti-tattoo.

Nice collection, much enjoyed. I have the symbol for the Sith on the back of my calf, which gives me geek bragging rights amongst my friends (http://sunshinehappybear.com/tat1.jpg), but the guy who does the tattoos has an entire leg devoted to the many sith characters. it’s fantastic.

The 5th-to-last one is Norse / Heathen / Asatru, not video game based. Unless there has been a game that I’ve missed that features those symbols more prominently than, say, Rune, it’s not video game geekery in that case but religious or cultural.

In response to the gentleman who asked “what are you going to do at a job interview or when you’re applying for a home loan???” and all like-minded individuals, I say, there’s a pretty good chance someone’s thought about that BEFORE getting tattooed in places where you can’t hide it. It’s not as though one day these people will wake up and decide they want a career as a professional tight-ass. People that are into tattoos generally rebel against that sort of thing. That’s part of the point in doing something deemed as ‘taboo’.
And you know, just because you see pictures of people doesn’t mean you know them or what they do. A good deal of people that are heavily tattooed to the point where they have sleeves/backpieces/tattoos you can’t hide are actually tattoo artists, piercers, or work in the body mod field in some way. Why the hell would you assume that everyone is a 9-5 suit-and-tie cookie cutter business man that has to worry about maintaining a perfect professional image? Or for that matter, why would you assume that every employer out there gives a damn these days?
And hey, if a tattoo artist is successful enough, he can run his own business. That’s right, be a business owner, be his own man. I’m sure he’d have no problem getting a home loan. Just a thought.

Hey there, I’m the girl with the fire flower on her back.
It has been stated that some people don’t understand why I’d get something so ‘dated’, and that removal is in order.
While I feel that perhaps those statements are directed on the more visible tattoos, I’ll touch base on my viewpoint.
I’d say that at least 50% of the people I’ve met and become good friends with are because of that pixelated flower. I’ve met amazing people just because someone saw it, realized we had something in common, and a friendship was sparked.
I in no way see that as a cause for regret. Life is built around the connections we make, and if retro Nintendo tattoos help build those connections, well, c’est la vie.

each to there own i say. they may be nerdy, but you gotta give it to the artist, some of it is really amazing work!
